Brabantia launches 2013’s Pimp Our Print competition in association with the National Design Academy

Following on from the resounding success of last year’s "Design Your Bin" challenge run by Brabantia, the homewares specialists, a new competition has been launched; aptly named ‘“Pimp Our Print”’. This new competition sees up and coming designers entering a state of pure creativity and developing a new and unusual pattern or design to be showcased on Brabantia’s very popular Patrice range.

For those of you unaware of the Patrice style, this range essentially incorporates 3 round canisters each of which is 1.4 litres in size. These containers are ideal for holding coffee, tea and sugar and will sit perfectly on a kitchen top or work surface. The Patrice style is one of Brabantia’s most popular ranges due to the simplicity and practicality of the product. However, Brabantia feel that the simple white background of this product range could benefit from a splash of colour and hint of inspirational style. Consequently, the powers that be at Brabantia’s HQ have selected this wonderfully neat canister range as the product to be redesigned in the “Pimp Our Print” competition.

As a result of the high level of quality entrants from students at the NDA in previous competitions, Brabantia have teamed up with the National Design Academy to create an internal NDA specific “Pimp Our Print” competition in addition to the highly popular international competition. Not only will our NDA entrants get entered into the international design competition with a chance of winning a 3 day trip for two to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2014 in Milan but they can also opt to enter into the NDA design competition with a chance of winning a set of the 3 Patrice canisters with their very own design printed around the outside of the container. This will not only be a great accolade to add to a CV but also make a wonderful and exceptionally personalised addition to the kitchen top.

On the judging panel for the National Design Academy competition is Anthony Rayworth, Director of Studies for the NDA, as well as Vicky Arbuthnot, Senior Design Tutor for the NDA.

I am delighted to be invited to this judging panel for Brabantia. The competition is a terrific opportunity for NDA students to interact with a commercial company. I wish all our entrants the very best of luckAnthony Rayworth

Following on from the high standard of entries for last year’s Brabantia competition, I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing how our students tackle this new brief.  It is a fantastic opportunity for all our students to flex their design muscles, be challenged by the nature of this design criteria and show us what they can do by combining presentation and graphic skills to their best. Good luck to all entrants.Vicky Arbuthnot
