National
Design Academy students were offered the chance to attend an exclusive Meridian
event hosted by RS AV Solutions at Muralto UK, and were treated to a rare
presentation by one of the cornerstones of great British design; Allen
Boothroyd.
The
National Design Academy also had the opportunity to talk with Allen about his
life in design, see the video below:

Allen
Boothroyd, co-founder of Meridian, personally launched the guide in addition to
showcasing some of Meridian’s iconic innovations, including the Lecson Audio
system which was selected in 1976 for the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)
permanent collection.
NDA
Director of Studies, Anthony Rayworth, said: "We are delighted to have
Meridian and RS AV Solutions as industry partners, particularly when our
students are provided with such rare opportunities to listen to industry
greats, such as Allen Boothroyd, explain their product history and design
philosophy."
The
event was aimed at the design community to tie in with the 2012 London Design
Festival, of which RS AV Solutions are a partner, and included a Q&A
session with Allen, who is the only designer to have won 3 British Design
Council Awards.
“It
was great to hold an event which showcased the British, award winning brand –
Meridian - and demonstrated how design has evolved from the 1970’s” said Rob
Sullivan, Owner of RS AV Solutions. “We were really pleased to see a wide
range of people come to our showroom and it gave us the ability to demonstrate
great looking and performing systems within a relaxed, lifestyle environment.”
Rob added.
“The
Meridian timeline area was a great hit and the opportunity to compare
developments in sound technology from the 1970s to the present, as well as the
chance to hear the 'M1', Meridian’s first active loudspeaker for the home, was
hugely successful. The ultra-high-end Anniversary System was also on display
which attracted lots of attention!”
Those
NDA students all acknowledged that they had received privileged access to one
of the great minds in audio design and technology as well as acquiring a deeper
understanding of the integration of audio-visual systems within the interior.
As
one NDA student said over a glass of Buck’s Fizz, “The information we got today by
listening and talking to Allen, as well as experiencing the systems for
ourselves, is equal to weeks, if not
months, of study”.
